Professional Biography
John Tourtellotte is an English and Theatre Performance teacher here at Hollywood High School, as part of the Performing Arts Magnet. He holds a BFA in Acting from Auburn University, and has worked as a professional actor and fight director at Shakespeare Santa Cruz, City Lights Theatre Company, and the Denver Center Theatre Company, among others. He is also a Certified Instructor with Dueling Arts International, a company designed to train actors to fight safely and convincingly for stage and screen.
As an educator, he holds an MA in Education from Alliant International University. He also serves as the Electives Department Chair, directs the after-school productions, as well as the in-class productions produced by the upper level theatre courses. He is double-credentialed in the state of California as an English teacher, as well as a Career and Technical Educator for aspiring performers. He's the Troupe Director for Hollywood High School's Troupe 2487 of the International Thespian Society, a branch of the Educational Theatre Association. He believes in the ability of every one of his students to build the best possible lives for themselves, and he works to support them in that journey.
He was deeply honored to be selected as one of the Educational Theatre Association's National Inspirational Theatre Educators in 2020.
