tell everyone if you are watching this video your child might be in my first or second. Class my name is Miss Klein I teach English language development level 3 and level 4 so my ELD class level 3 is my first. And my ELD level four is my second grade class welcome to the virtual classroom I am going to share my screen so that and take a look at some information about my class alright so here is my opening to back to school night welcome I teach English language development and I also teach 9th grade English your Hollywood High School so here's a little bit of an overview of what we do in English language development classes we work on students with their English Reading Writing speaking and listening skills so if you want to take a look at this page you can pause the video you can go over it I also have translated it here at the bottom and red in Spanish so 4real DD main goal of the class is to have students reclassify and I join General Ed English classes so there are two tests that they need to pay to reclassify the first one is the El Paso and although many students didn't get to take it last year due to covid-19 they are in the process of getting the date set up for when we will take the elpac this year still in my class we're going to do a lot of prep work Christine feel comfortable and ready to take that exam II exam at student to take is the SR I so really quickly have the elpac CSR I am this is a reading test difficult but we are going to be using a lot of online program to help your child progress and move forward and hopefully pass that exam this year the other thing that they need to know is that they do need receive a c or higher in their regular English class so when that happens when all three of these come together your student can reclassify all right all right here so like I mentioned in ELD the main thing is that we work on our writing reading speaking and listening skills all in English important that a child feels comfortable with in all these skills but also is embracing their languages well I'm a big advocate for learning English but also keeping your native language apart of the class alright so for my grading scale it's a little bit different but it's also very simple so I use Mastery learning and grading which means that I want to see your child I don't want to give them just points and total it up like a math equation I want to see your child learn and progress and get better at better in all their skills in English so I'm just so you can see is a 024 scale so if a if your child submits an assignment and does an incredible job does really really good work they will get a 4 if they do a pretty good job they still need to maybe do a couple more skill to show absolute Mastery and something they'll get us three if they're okay they've got it down might need some more building and some more work we go with it too one is they still need some time to work on that skill and is 0 is like when they do absolutely nothing so if they submit nothing that's when they get a zero think of it as like a four is an a A3 is a B-2 is a C1 is a d and then a 0 is like in the six areas that I am grading them in are writing and Reading Writing listening speaking digital citizenship which is how they act on online in our virtual classroom perceptual are they posting a professional way are they you know being respectful of their peers on so they actually get a grade for that and then also there's a self-directed learner this is for this is a grade four students when they are emailing me if they have questions are being proactive if there's any issues with our thing on top of their work anything that has to do with them being responsible and taking her that's what the self-directed learner created all right all right here I'm if any of you need to contact me at any time please feel free to send me an email I'm I'm I'm trying my best and I feel like I'm pretty good at getting back to emails as quickly as possible so here's my email if you if you do need it and along with myself I also work very closely with Arielle ordinator her name is Miss Bond and she is a great person to talk to you if you have questions about your child's reclassification any of the testing dates any classes that you think they might need or might need to switch she is the best person to talk to you and her email is right here I posted its bottom I feel free to contact her as well as myself all right so I also just wanted to show you right on schoology how to access my class page so your child if you click up here at courses on schoology courses I'm there either in my. One or my pee to class so it's Aaron. To click on in the class and this is what my class page looks like so just so everyone can see I have posted the class schedule right here I'm so that anytime your child needs check the schedule they're not sure when classes are the schedule for Hollywood High School is posted on Schoology right below that is the zoom length this is where your miles accesses my class on the day service times so here's the zoom link all they need to do is click on this link and it takes them right to do so they click on it it takes right into the zoom class yes below the zoom link is the digital notebook we use this every class to start class we do a warm-up writing from so your child should be very familiar with these two things on schoology scrolling down I've got a video if any of your if anyone is confused on how to submit an assignment they can click on this link and there's a video that will actually show them exactly what to do along with that I've got add folder for my grading rubrics and the course documents so if you click on course documents I've got my syllabus some Hollywood High School resources and also introduction about myself so me to take you through it we got the syllabus this has everything you need to know about the class it's also in Spanish I need to get it translated into some other languages to my grading policy you know class expectations I'll hear you put back these are some Hollywood High School resources for if you guys need any help with anything whether it's technology whether it's mental health physical health on there's all these resources that LAUSD has provided for parents and students and then if you wanted to get to know me a little bit better here is a little biography page about me and my background all right so ultimately if you go every week as you can see I got weak 0 Week 1 2 3 4 every week I post my assignments in the weekly folder so if your students is joining Zoom is emailing with me is asking question and is checking schoology they should be in really good shape for the school year stop sharing. If there are any other questions feel free to email me I really really think that we need to be in communication this time I know it's a very weird unique strange time and I know everyone's going through different things but just know that I am very excited to have child in my class I love my job I love teaching and although this is a very different time we will get through this together so I hope this was a good virtual back to school night for you guys email me with any questions and I look forward to speaking with you have a good night
