  • 2:52 NMA Eleventh Grade Student Work

A teaser for a documentary titled "I Do," this video was one component of a student project that was honored at the Linked Learning showcase in April 2014.

This video is part of the eleventh grade interdisciplinary project. Students research the experience of an American demographic through the lens of access to specific constitutional rights and conduct literary analysis of works by major voices from their assigned demographic. They use the information from their history and English classes in constructing a treatment for an original documentary that explores the question "Can a unified American experience exist?". Students gather b-roll footage and original interviews, and produce a teaser for their film, which they then pitch to a panel of industry professionals at the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood. The pitch includes an explanation of the story they wish to tell, rights and clearances they will need to secure, their audience and marketing strategy, and a projected budget and timeline, and concludes with a screening of their teaser.
