Assignment

Today we read our first RLH documents in class so you must have printed them out beforehand to bring to class today. They will be on the Homestead Strike. You can either go directly to the SHEG (Reading Like a Historian) site to print them out or use the link I've attached here (you must convert them to a word doc to print). I have attached Word Compatible docs but they are the complete version, not the abridged. Therefore they are eleven pages. You can find shorter versions on-line of the same docs as they are in the public domain. I have also emailed them directly to you via Engrade. The rest is up to you, be ready for Tuesday and have them read and annotated over the next four days to answer the two question in class then. PS. I have even attached the questions if you want to do them ahead of time on the pdf.

Assignment

We will watch over the next two Fridays an excellent film on how one person can make a difference. It's called "The Journey of August King" and is narrated by Maya Angelou. It's set in 1815 rural North Carolina and depicts yeoman farmers who don't own slaves vs. one wealthy one who owns many. In their midst is an escaped 17 yr. old who has run away and is either hunted for a huge bounty or helped by others.
