1st Period: Musical Theatre Production

Course Description

The Musical Theatre Production class is part of the Performing Arts Magnet's freshman "Wheel" class, where incoming freshman students will spend 6 weeks of the semester with each of the performing arts teachers (Choir, Dance, and Theatre).  In these six weeks, students will have the opportunity to get a sample of what each of the performing arts classes are like (what are the focuses of the different classes, what is it like to work on those skills, etc.).  At the end of the Fall semester, students select which of the three disciplines they want to focus on in the Spring Semester.

For Mr. Tourtellotte's Theatre Rotation, students will engage in lessons focused on:
  • What is acting and what makes it good?
  • How do actors create compelling performances?
  • How does an actor take a character from the page to the stage?
  • Text/character analysis.
  • One Minute Monologue Performance Project (students write and perform their own original monologues).
