Admission into SAS

The School for Advanced Studies is open to students in Los Angeles Unified School District who are committed to high academic achievement. Applications and tours are available throughout the school year. Group tours and informational meetings are held each spring semester. For additional information regarding the program, please call the school at (323) 993-1700 and ask for Salvador Hermosillo, assistant principal, or email Christina Dempsey, SAS Lead Teacher at [email protected] or SAS Coordinator JS Jirn at [email protected].

You may find the applications linked in the files below in both English and Spanish.

October 1 2021--

Student Permit Application is now available on MyLAUSD. Students who reside within LAUSD boundaries, but outside of a designated SAS site’s residential boundaries, may apply for an SAS permit for next year's enrollment. The SAS permit application window opens in October and closes in March. SAS permit selection will occur at SAS sites by lottery after the March deadline, as space is available.

SAS AND non-SAS sites should carefully review the attached memorandum to prepare for parent inquiries regarding the SAS verification, application, and selection process.

NOTE: Students, residing within the boundaries of a designated SAS school who meet eligibility criteria, must be placed in the site’s SAS gifted/talented program (unless the parent has signed a waiver, requesting non-participation, or has selected another program option). No formal application is required for eligible resident students since SAS is the school site’s GATE instructional program.

MEM-5974.5 will be posted on the GATE website https://achieve.lausd.net/gate under GATE Documents (password protected), as well as on MyLAUSD. Directions to access the memorandum and attachment templates on MyLAUSD are as follows:
