can you bring parents and Guardians I thank you so much for joining me this is for HT environmental science so hopefully you're in the right place right now all of my other classes are General biology this is the one videos little bit different to just make sure you're on the right video This is for AP environmental science so what I do want to go over with you all as the parent resources so if you go to your students if there's a lot of stuff here right now but if you scroll down a bit is a parent resources folder and you'll see a couple of things here so you'll first be of course syllabus you'll see a course outline and how to navigate schoology so first off if you're not sure how to sign up for the parent portal or you're not sure how to navigate there's going to be two videos here for you so one video shows you how to find out the other video shows you how to access navigate schoology once you're on it let me go back to the parent folder syllabus so obviously in advance so they will have to take an AP exam at the end of the year so the goal during this class is to get through all of the content in order because that's how people get lice so with that said AP is a college-level course so it does take a lot of work so stressful for the student I told him you're signing up for an AP science especially you're going to have to do a lot of outside reading you can feel free to go through it this is AP environmental science they have to make sure they really commit themselves to the sports cuz it is difficult very rewarding we talk a lot in AP issues that are happening in our environment and how we can propose Solutions so we're looking at all different Earth system and figuring out what exactly is happening to cause our Earth to be sustainable for life and what we can do you mitigate those problems so that's what AP environmental science is all about this is what they are supposed to be a striving to do develop an understanding of basic biological Concepts acquire a scientific vocabulary because they do have to use academic language for their act exam apply scientific process to solve problems a lot of issues in our world so we're looking at how do we become better prepared for gain confidence in their ability to Excel on the ace exam and to think really critically challenged assumptions and ask question that to me is the most important which is something that we do it like in our daily life we really look at the issues and people say about them more questions to try and drive a little bit deeper they do have a textbook that they are using a digital as well as a physical copy they should have at home they do do readings in that so they should be reading from that quite often they should also be taking Post-it notes while they're reading in there they will have homework to do so you'll see them watching at puzzle videos of writing out frqs practice okay I wanted to get you cuz I was always worried about the grades so looking at how grades are determined so you can see here here's the breakdown of the phrase it's on the syllabus so 30 it is harder to semester because we are online but we will still have lab stimulations that they're doing up and also at home so if your child asks you for a ride it's probably going to be for my class so just know that so 30% of their greatest based on last 20% is going to be class work so anything that we do in class whether that's at in class activities in classroom project please make sure that your student is logic to a classroom and that is on the College Board website and that they have signed up for my class I told them already had to do this there's an email with directions on how to do it last minute if they don't want to take it that's fine but I want them all to sign up for right now so make sure they're on AP classroom because 10% of their grade is going to be the process cats that are they have to be to do these end-of-unit progress check so ask them if they're on their percent in this is a large percentage is there exam free response question that's going to help so all of those kinds of exams are going to go into their group by 40% the reason why a college that's how it works your exams are the main portion of your great and we need to make sure that they're taking exam seriously since they are going to be taking an AP exam at the end of the year so that's really really important so that's why it's 3% here's the breakdown we have a normal breakdown traditional so it's 92 a hundred percent is an a 80 to 89% is a 7279 CM so on you can check your grades if you're on the parent portal you just go to schoology course see what their grades are at right now okay it's already it's already in there they already have the different policies that we have a lot of them like passes are true but there is but if we do go with a watch videos and they do there they come onto Doom we talked about those videos in the material and then I also have a pacing plan here so if you want to see what they're working on every semester right now we're working on unit for we start with unit for only because of the Earth's systems and that's a super important Baseline to understand now we are talking about you and where on Earth's atmosphere we're going to be doing for the rest of this semester and then moving my stuff so everything's already set out what is expected of them and when everything is going to be so this is the syllabus and you can feel free to look at that at your leisure is the course outline this is changing quite a bit because status update slow or something so faster and so so you can see that we are doing a little bit behind at this point but I expected to be so it's okay but here we just finished up Earth's atmosphere and solar radiation so we're going to be moving on to Global wind patterns this is kind of where we're at right now and will be so you can take a look at this if you want you can kind of see when their progress checks in their tester going to be like I said the dates might be a little bit different but at least you can see chronologically where we're going there are a lot of resources for them there is a UCLA AP Readiness for extra credit over Saturday there are other teachers that give really good information on all of the contest so that's on AP classroom as well so having them to make sure that there aren't going to be a really important resource for them to get study Hollywood High School just tell me what it is it is okay Escobedo is okay so I'm always up to so please let me know
